Ordinary Magic for Parents
Ownership+Effort=Self Worth
I asked my kids, all young adults now, three questions when I started writing my book on parenting, Puddle Jumpers.
One of these questions was, “What’s one thing I did as a parent that stands out for you?”
The answers back were incredibly revealing. I put them all in my book (May 26’ release).
Sometimes, the very ordinary to us is magic to them.
My oldest Jackson recalled letting him take the subway on his own in New York to his summer job as a young sixteen-year-old visiting from Oregon (where he lived full-time with his mom).
This seems trivial, but he said this was a profound moment for him that sticks with him to this day.
“It made me feel like I needed to step up to meet the responsibility you trusted in me. Instead of rebelling against parenting, I got to rise to it.”-Jackson (Now a 23-year-old tech CEO)
Remember that letting our kids do simple tasks on their own builds trust and confidence.
Trust them with the ordinary and watch the magic unfold.
